Charlie Park recently posted an excellent rundown of an oft-forgotten graphic by Edward Tufte, called Slopegraphs.

I figured I'd take a stab at a javascript / d3 implementation. While the overall concept is fairly understandable, the implementation is a bit tough. Because these types of graphics flourish with clear labels and a handful of points, it is up to the implementor to figure out how to deal with label collisions.

My method achieves the tradeoff between maintaining a list on each margin and maintaining some sense of relative quantitative scale for the slopes. You can take a look at this page's source, but I do intend on rolling this into a d3.js layout.
